After six years down under in Canberra my itchy feet needed a good scratch so Mitch and I sold most of our stuff, rented out our gorgeous cottage and left our jobs to hit the backpacker trail.
We’re keen to get away from our 9-5 office lifestyle, explore some new places, meet the natives and of course try the local delicacies! For those that know me it is clear that I’m driven by a love of food so this blog will focus on some of the culinary experiences. In order to get to know the locals and to keep to our budget we’ve joined a number of international organisations:
- Wwoof – willing worker on organic farms: hosts provide wwoofers with meals and accommodation in exchange for working approximately 6 hours/day, 5 days/week.
- Servas – to promote international peace hosts provide guests with 2 nights accommodation and they exchange information about cultures and traditions in their respective countries.
- work away – similar to wwoof but the work is not restricted to organic farms, it may involve housework, gardening, language training, animal care, etc.
Our primary audience will be friends and family and, of course, ourselves as we want to keep a bit of a record of our travelling memories and photos.
The plan is to write about once a week, capturing the highlights and something of a travel diary.
